HEAVY HITTERS FRIDAY - HALLOWEEN SHOWCASE - No cover charge
Not to scare anyone but this month's "Heavy Hitters Friday" showcase presented by chameleon Music and hosted by Cas Lucas will be a fantastic
show and will showcase not only some great Bay Area talent from Santa Cruz, Berkeley, and San Francisco, but there will be some Halloween suprises this night.
Heavy Hitters Friday is a monthly showcase of Bay Area talent held at Brain Wash Cafe since March 2005 and was formerly known as "Last Sunday" back in 2004. Each month we allow artists to showcase their talent in a more "acoustic but rocking" setting. There is no cover charge and most artists will have their CD's readily available at the show for sale. In addition, the Brain Wash has an excellent food and drink menu. Keep in mind that if you are hungry to get there before 9pm.
This month's lineup:
Dave Stein Band - As part of the Heavy Hitters Friday at the Brainwash, The DAVE STEIN BAND plays groove-driven rock blending all the best elements of rock, funk and jazz amazingly with song driven vocals. An accurate description for the structured jams that Connection Magazine music journalist Dawni Pappas describes as "gloriously delicious flavors of rock, soul and groove. The band's passion for performing music takes listeners on an emotionally compelling journey. "We pick up where classic rock leaves off", says Stein."
Cas Lucas Band - With songwriters like John Mayer and Jack Johnson breaking big, the sky's the limit for this 27 year-old songwriter. His guitar-driven, groove-infused tunes take this fresh rock and roll sub-genre to new levels of musicianship, and pop appeal. Cas regularly tours the West Coast (and select East Coast dates), gaining legions of fans everywhere he goes. His style is akin to that of no other. He has been compared to the likes of Paul Simon, Jack Johnson, and James Taylor because of his knack for creating infectious hooks, but also through the ubiquitously appealing pop sensibilities that those musicians evoke through their playing. But Cas Lucas’ style is much more than that - beyond his pop hooks and intelligent wit of his lyrics, his musicianship spans the ages bringing up the passionate intensity of Robert Johnson’s raw blues and mixing that with the intricate, tonal playfulness of Michael Hedges. His honest, humble approach to songwriting is free of ego, and that makes each of his songs applicable to the spectrum of human emotions – from empathy to anger, from heartache to joy. Cas Lucas is a musician who has been truthful to himself and in his interpretation of society around him. His style of songwriting is completely his own and has a universally appealing flair – not too poppy, not to bluesy, not too folky…just right.
RoTTon Core - This mixture of blues, punk and rock is sure to surprise you with their catchy riffs, stage antics and mixed lineup. With Blue Lew (blue lew show SF cable channel 29 friday nights 11:30pm - 15 yrs running) on Vocals and guitar, Sofi on guitar and vocals, Gray Ray on bass, and Lester Moore keeping the beat on drums this band is sure to entertain. Formed back in the 80's from the underground Sunset punk scene, this band has amorphed into a more tight and RoTTon core.
